Catholic Community Update

Joint Pastoral Councils of St. Matthew and St. Bernard

The Parish Councils of both St. Matthew and St. Bernard are continuing to meet together monthly to work cooperatively and creatively*.   We are currently working on a Catholic Community Mass and Picnic in the Fall, developing one combined Parish Bulletin and reviewing changes at both Churches as well as our first combined Triduum held at St. Bernard this Holy Week.  We are receiving very positive feedback on the new sound system and introduction of Missalettes at St. Matthew as well as the Triduum at St. Bernard with combined Choirs,  Lectors, Altar Servers and Extraordinary Ministers.  However, we are also very much aware of the parking problem successful joint liturgies present for both St. Matthew and St. Bernard and will work pro-actively to address this challenge.  We are also announcing a staff position for a new combined bulletin editor as well as forming a new Building Committee at St. Matthew.  Please continue to pray for the work of our Catholic Community!

*We are now yoked with St. Matthew of Tolland to form "The Catholic Community of St. Bernard and St. Matthew" with Fr. Rick Ricard as Pastor of this new Catholic Community assisted by Fr. Bill Olesik, Deacon Michael Berstene and Deacon Ron Freedman. To learn more about the yoking process, please read Guidelines for Yoked Parishes in the Diocese of Norwich.
