St. Matthew & St. Bernard Churches are working with local organizations to collect school supplies for low income kids. We are in need of the following items:

  • 1 & 2 inch ring binders            
  • Notebooks              
  • # 2 pencils                
  • Colored pencils    
  • Calculators                        
  • Packs of loose leaf paper      
  • Glue sticks              
  • Pens                          
  • Markers                
  • Backpacks (new or gently used)
  • Composition notebooks          
  • Rulers                    
  • Crayons                    
  • Plastic scissors                                                  
  • Gift cards to Staples, Wal-Mart or K-Mart

Please keep in mind supplies that are particularly needed for teens: backpacks, binders with paper & calculators.

If you can help, the collection dates & places are as follows:

St. Bernard (supplies will go to HVCC):                                                                                                                                           Weekends of July 28th & 29 and August 4th & 5th (Please leave items in the door vestibules of the Church)

St. Matthew (supplies will go to Covenant to Care):                                                                                                                       Weekend of August 18th & 19th (Please leave items in the marked box in the Parish Hall)

Items may also be brought to the drop boxes at The Cornerstone Foundation (3 Prospect St., Rockville)

If you are away during the collection weekends, you can bring items to Hockanum Valley Community Food Pantry on Naek Road in Vernon anytime before August 13th.

Important: In order to receive supplies from HVCC, needy families of either parish must sign up in person ASAP at the HVCC Food Pantry, because supplies are limited. If you have any questions, call HVCC at (860) 872-7727.
